Hello! I am Karen Lovejoy and welcome to King of Kings’ Lenten Devotions, “Transformed in Christ”

Today is April 5th and this week we are reminded to Be Like Jesus with Power in the Holy Spirit.

Today’s truth that transforms is: Ask Daily of the Holy Spirit, ‘What Are You Saying to Me Today?

Our Scripture reading is from John 16

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

How are we “Transformed in Christ” and shaped to be more like Him?

How did Jesus decide to go to the wilderness and meet the temptations of Satan? The Spirit led him (Mark 1:12). Wilderness areas were a good place for testing and for tuning into God! Have you ever felt led by the Holy Spirit, even into a place that feels lonely and barren? Was it also a place with fewer distractions so you might better hear from God’s word and the Holy Spirit Himself? Sometimes we might enter seasons that feel like deserts, and we tune into God. But we don’t need to just be in deserts to tune into God. Daily, we can ask, “Lord, what are you saying to me today?” Expect an answer. Give it time and prayer. Listen to your Bible reading. Expect that the Holy Spirit will lead. He has something for you. Just give your attention to Him. “Lord, what are you saying to me today?”

Sometimes I sit with a blank sheet of paper.  I title the page “What You want to say to me, God.”  I sit quietly and wait for words, phrases, or pictures to come to me.  Results are sometimes expected and sometimes not!  The time is never wasted!

In daily life, I have come to try to listen to God’s voice, to pay attention to things He is impressing to my mind, to where my eyes land, and to His nudges:  As I am praying about when to make visits, I go when I hear/feel “GO!”  God’s timing is always perfect!   I was once led to carry a prayer shawl to a class I was teaching.  When I asked, during that class, if anyone knew of someone who might be blessed by a prayer blanket, one hand went up.  It turned out that the prayer blanket opened up a very special spiritual discussion before a death occurred!   I was once led to share a Scripture during a hospital visit.  It was a verse that I had never before shared during a hospital visit.  The verse did not mean anything especially significant to the family members present, but the sweet elderly patient who heard the verse had tears streaming down her face.  The Holy Spirit had led me to read her confirmation verse and that was extremely significant to her that day!
A former pastor once said that if God tells you to stand on your head by a soda machine, do it!  That was a good word that I have learned to so appreciate.  God’s ways do not always make sense to me, but I know that His is the excellent way to proceed.  There is SO much freedom and comfort in walking in God’s will.  I am reminded today to ask and to obey and to always be open to the Holy Spirit.
